Art and Design Technology Expo - March 2018
The Spring Fair gave us the opportunity to showcase the pupils Art and Design Technology skills with a fabulous exhibition of their work taking place in the hall. The amazing creativity of the work was admired by all the visitors.
Opening of the Outdoor Gym - March 2018
As the new playground fencing was being completed excitement grew over some unusual work taking place near the old garden area. New flooring was set down and some strangely shaped wrapped up objects suddenly appeared. The secret was out once the covers were removed at the opening of Smithy Streets new outdoor gym, with the school's two oldest Year Six pupils and two youngest Year One pupils performing the opening ribbon cut.
Let it Snow...... March 2018
The "Beast from East" sparred Smithy Street from the worst of its unseasonal snow but still left us with several days of snowy playtimes. The pictures show Year Three taking their turn playing in the snow in the playground.
World Book Day - March 2018
Smithy Street celebrated World Book Day with a 'Dress as a Book Character" day. The pictures below show our nursery class getting into the spirit of the day.
International Evening - February 2018
With Bollywood workshops, Chinese Dragon chases and Flamenco displays the annual International Evening had a strong dance element this year. Our Key Stage One choir also sang a range of songs from around the world to open the event. As the pictures show, the interactive dance shows were a big hit!
Black History Month - October 2018
As part of our Black History Month we had a visit from the Freshwater Theatre for some workshops across the school and heard some traditional Caribbean stories with Jonathon being the storyteller.
Family trip to Shoeburyness - June 2017
Following three successful years at Victoria Park, this year we decided to go further afield for our annual Family Trip. Thanks to fantastic organising by Sharron and the excellent service offered by C2C trains, we set off for Shoeburyness on the Essex coast. The weather was kind, and the tide was out, allowing us to enjoy splashing around in the tidal pool, hunting for crabs and shellfish in the rock pools and then take lunch on the grass cliffs before heading back to London.
Refugee Awareness Week - Jun 17
As part of Refugee Awareness Week we held assemblies to explain to pupils some of the issues refugees around the world face.
Spring Fair - April 2017
Moving the Summer Fair to a Springtime April Fair did not stop blue skies and sunshine greeting the event, as Smithy Street celebrated the end of term. A surprise visit from the fire brigade added to the fun!
Spring Fair Art and DT Exhibition - April 2017
As part of the Spring Fair all classes in the school exhibited some Art and Design technology work based on an Around the World Theme. Pupils made patterns to represent the 'flavour' of a chosen country and showcased some DT work based on class topics - including cooking, puppet making, baking and farm model-making.
World Book Day - February 2017
World Book Day was celebrated with a range of activities across the school with classes celebrating reading in extreme places. What would be the most extreme place where you would dare to read?
Chinese New Year - February 2017
There were - plenty of class activities and assemblies across the school to learn about and celebrate the Chinese New Year. The pictures below show the nursery children learning about the dragon dances.
Time Truck - November 2016
The Time Truck team paid the school a visit to allow pupils to spend some time learning about archaeology and develop their historical enquiry skills. The small truck that arrived opened up into a large classroom once sited in the playground and every class in key stage two got time inside.
Tales and Teapots - October 2016
To celebrate reading and raise money for the McMillan Cancer Nurses charity, Smithy Street held a 'Tales and Teapots' morning with parents invited in to join the children and staff for our morning reading sessions. As you can see in the photos below, the event was themed around Alice in Wonderland's Mad Hatters tea party. Thank you to all the parents who came in to support the event and share reading time with their children.
The New School Year - September 2016
Our new school year is underway and our Year Three pupils wasted no time in remaking friends and getting on with the exciting learning their teachers had set up for the first week back, as you can see from the photos below.
Key Stage Two Sports Day - July 2016
Years Four, Five and Six set off to the Mile End Stadium for this year's sports day. The children had a day filled with football, athletics and multi sports competitions with six teams in each year group battling to accumulate the most points before the annual staff versus pupils race with the honours this year going the staff team! You can see some of the action in the pictures below.
Thames Music Concert at the Barbican - July 2016
The Key Stage Two children who have been involved in THAMES music lessons this year got a chance to showcase their talent and hard work in an evening concert at the Barbican Concert. The children were all note perfect throughout their performance. As the pictures show, they joined with the school choir at lunchtime, who were also performing at the event.
Kidzmania Trip - June 2016
Key Stage One had a day of fun at Kidzmania for their end of year trip. All four classes greatly enjoyed the ball ponds and climbing equipment as can be seen from the photos
Celebrating the Queen's Birthday - May 2016
To celebrate the Queens Birthday every class was asked to design and make a cake fit for royalty. There were some stunning cakes on show at the exhibition in the bottom hall along with the 'Royal Stamp of Approval' artwork the classes had also composed.
Victoria Park Trip - May 2016
On May 26th 2016 Smithy Street made their annual trip to Victoria Park where parents, children and staff shared a fun-filled day in the sunshine. This is the third year we have held this popular trip, although we are hoping to head further a field next year, with plans underway for a trip to the seaside. You can see the fun we had in Victoria Park this year in the photos below.
World Book Day - March 2016
Smithy Street celebrated World Book Day by dressing up as our favourite book characters for the day. In doing so we managed to raise over £90 for the London Air Ambulance charity. You can see some our costumes in the slide show below.
