Year One Trips
St Dunstan's Church
Year One took a short walk past Stepney Green Park to visit St Dunstan's church as part of their topic work on the local area and the famous local bells in the nursery rhyme, "Oranges and Lemons". They explored how the bells are used in the church, what happens at the church and then they made our own bells using stain glass effect. The pictures show Rukshana's class during their trip.
Year One made the short trip to Ideas for a storytelling session. Whilst they were there the children were fascinated by the views of Whitechapel from the fourth floor of the library building
As part of their topic learning about the Royal Family and Queen Elizabeth II, Year One held a Royal Garden Party. As it should at all garden parties, the sun shone and as the pictures show a royal time was had by all!
Royal Mews Visit
Year One started the Summer term with a trip up to Buckingham Palace to visit the nearby Royal Mews. The children were shown some of the pageantry associated with royalty and as the pictures show, were able to role play being in a royal procession. You can also see a short video of the trip on the video page accessed by the menu to the left.
Victoria and Albert Museum Trip
Both Year One classes paid a visit to the Victoria and Albert Museum in Kensington to take part in a workshop supporting their DT and Science learning. The pictures below show some of the activities Bradley's class took part in at the museum.
Stepney City Farm Trip
Bradley's year One class visited Stepney City Farm where they completed a literacy trail in the morning and wrote a poem about things you find at farm. After lunch, they split into groups to feed the animals, draw and sort them into omnivores, herbivores and carnivores. As the picture shows everyone had a wonderful time, even if it was very cold outside!
Library Parents Session
The children in both Year One classes enjoyed spending time with their parents in the library, choosing new books and reading with their friends. The sessions allowed the parents a chance to share reading time with their children and see our well resourced library.
Bradley's Year One class visited Stepney Green Park as part of their Autumn walk programme. In the park the children described the Autumn scene and made drawings of what they could see. The also collected leaves to use back in class as part of their collage artwork. There was just enough time to play on the park equipment before coming back to school. A second walk saw them undertake some map work and look at they key features and landmarks around our local area. The play park of course was a favourite feature!
It might not exactly be a trip but Year One were very excited about their first sharing assembly. having watched all the other year groups share during the half term the last Friday before the half term holiday saw the turn of Year One. As can be seen in the pictures of Rukshana's class they enthralled the audience with their retelling of their class book, Handa's Surprise.
St Dunstan's Church Visit
Year One visited our nearby church - St Dunstan's. They learnt about the history of the church and how Stepney has changed over the years. We also heard a story about St. Dunstan, the patron saint of blacksmiths. The children then had a chance to explore the church and draw what they could see in their art books.
Stepney Park Visit
Year One are learning about the local area and its history. To help their ideas and learning they went to Stepney Park to draw different buildings and the different features they could see. You can see them hard at work completing their sketches in the pictures below. (Although they did find some time to use the swings in the park as well!)
Stepney Park Visit
Year One went on wild flower hunt in Stepney Park. They were amazed at the different varieties of flowers they found in an urban location.
Victoria and Albert Museum and Ideas Store Trips
Year One had a busy end to April, with trips to the Victoria and Albert Museum and the Ideas Store. The children were particularly impressed with the Islamic Art on display at the museum.
